Celebrating the release of their debut album A CALL INTO THE VOID, Manchester duo Hot Milk delivered an electrifying headline show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, supported by Modern Error and Witch Fever. With their impressive three self-produced EPs, Hot Milk is poised to conquer the alternative world with undeniable force.
The air was charged with excitement as the infectious 17-track set kicked off with their 2023 single, “WELCOME TO THE…”. The entire O2 Forum erupted in a frenzy, with mosh pits forming and fans eagerly preparing for stage dives. Hannah and Jim, the duo behind Hot Milk, commanded the stage, effortlessly captivating the crowd’s unwavering adoration.
The band recorded the album between Manchester, Los Angeles and Stockholm with the bands very own Jim Shaw at the Producing helm for the majority of the record, much like all previous releases. Hannah, in her undeniable charm, shared the story behind “BREATHING UNDERWATER,” the album’s opening track, revealing a vulnerability that only made us love her even more.
“Say what you feel, say it to the world, don’t keep it to yourself.” Hannah called out to the crowd, who responded with resounding cheers of approval, embracing her empowering message about mental health.
A CALL TO THE VOID is the English rendering of the French phrase “l’appel du vide,” describing the mind’s uncanny ability to perceive opportunities for self-destruction. It’s that eerie jolt, the fleeting thought that slips into your consciousness when you’re standing at a train station, hinting at the fragility of existence and the notion that one can end it all in an instant. It’s these delicate moments that hold profound significance for the band and their devoted fans.
For Candy Coated Lie$, Hot Milk called upon the crowd to show them what they’ve got. “Does anyone know the words to Candy Coated Lies?” Hannah asks and within seconds various volunteers demand her attention. One lucky fan gets called onto the stage to live out his best rockstar dreams with his favourite band providing the backing track.
In a blazing performance, Hot Milk demonstrated that they will soon be leading the charge at UK festivals, forging unparalleled connections with their fans through unfiltered honesty. Their raw passion is nothing short of admirable.
